FAQ
How do credits work?
Every successful API call costs credits. Errors and timeouts are refunded automatically. You can see your balance in the dashboard.
Adding include_answer to any search adds 10 credits.
What's the difference between Free tier and Pay-as-you-go?
Free tier · 2,000 credits every 30 days for accounts created by signing in with a GitHub account at least a year old. All tools included.
Pay-as-you-go · Buy credits from the dashboard whenever you need them at $0.0025 each, in whole dollars from $10 (4,000 credits) up to $25,000. No monthly commitment. Purchased credits never expire. All tools included.
Do unused credits roll over?
Free-tier credits: No. They reset to 2,000 every 30 days, counted from your sign-up; unused free credits are not carried over.
Purchased credits: Yes. Credits you buy never expire and are tracked separately.
What happens when I run out of credits?
REST calls return a 402 error and MCP tool calls return an error result. Nothing is charged. You can buy more credits from the dashboard at any time. A fetch reserves credits for every URL in the batch up front and refunds the ones that fail, so you need enough balance for the whole batch.
Can free-tier users also buy credits?
Yes. You can top up at any time. Purchased credits are tracked separately from your monthly free credits and never expire. Free credits are spent first, so your purchased credits only get used after the current 2,000 run out.
How does the free tier work?
Create your account by signing in with a GitHub account that is at least a year old and you get 2,000 free credits, reset every 30 days. All four tools (Search, Fetch, Extract, Research) are included.
Email sign-ups start on pay-as-you-go with 0 credits. Linking GitHub to an existing email account later does not add the free tier.
What if my API key is leaked?
Go to the dashboard, create a New key, switch your app over to it, then Revoke the leaked key. The revoked key stops working immediately. Until you revoke it, anyone holding the key can make API calls that spend your credits, so revoke it as soon as you can. A key can't change your settings or manage other keys, and revoking one doesn't touch your credit balance.
What is MCP?
MCP (Model Context Protocol) lets AI agents like Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex use Sofya tools directly. It works with clients that support remote (HTTP) MCP servers. Copy the setup from your dashboard to connect your agent. The agent gets search, fetch, extract, and research as tools. Your key travels in an HTTP header (or you sign in with OAuth), so the model never sees it.
